10 Reasons Why You Should Attend Vispop Music Festival

BISAYAA UY! Catch the Vispop Music Festival this September 13 in UP Cebu. (photo from Vispop)

Are you planning to attend Vispop Music Festival this September 13, 2015? If yes, great. See you! If you’re still a bit hesitant, here are 10 awesome reasons why you should attend the first major Vispop concert event!

1. Most popular Vispop songs from 3 seasons will be played during the event.

If you’re a loyal Vispop fan since the first season, you should definitely attend this event! This is an avenue for you to listen to the Vispop songs in Spotify and SoundCloud live! Isn’t it great to listen to “Duyog”, “Labyu Langga”, “Balay ni Mayang”, “Bok Love”, and “Buwag Balik”? Of course, there are more Vispop songs that will be played for the Cebuano audience.

2. Missing Filemon will be there to serenade us.

Cebu’s premiere Bisrock band will be performing during the Vispop Music Festival. Insoy Niñal, the band’s vocalist, is popular in social media since he’s behind Sinugbang Sugbo and he writes interesting and thought-provoking commentaries in Sunstar Cebu. Will they play my favorite “Kawanangan?” Let’s find out.

3. Aggressive Audio and Junior Kilat will perform, too!

Aside from Missing Filemon and the Vispop artists, there are more Cebuano music artists like Aggressive Audio and Junior Kilat (Budoy) who will be performing live!

4. Catch Von Saw and watch an excerpt of Gugmang Giatay: The Musical.

The cast of “Gugmang Giatay: The Musical” will perform a 15-minute excerpt of their play during the Vispop Music Festival. Von Saw will also performing during the event with his song “Sa Akong Heart.”

5. It’s time to give Cebuano artists an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Let’s go beyond Spotify and SoundCloud. Let’s discover more Cebuano artists who are proud of their identity and, at the same time, encourage future Vispop winners. Bring in your friends who love Cebuano music and let’s party like never before. It’s a music festival we can truly call our own.

6. Aside from Cebuano music, there will also be more of Cebuano culture.

Music is the heart of the festival but it will showcase more than just that. In between acts there will be poetry and along the vicinity there will various booths showcasing the Cebuano culture and tradition. Let’s see if we can buy some Cebuano food, too.

7. Ticket booths are available in major universities.

To bring you closer to Vispop, you can now order your tickets. Aside from ordering through Facebook and in Handuraw Pizza, you can also buy from your respective point persons in your university like UP Cebu, Cebu Normal University, St. Theresa’s College, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose Recoletos.

8. It will be held in UP Cebu grounds.

What’s more Cebuano than holding the event in the university who has been very vocal in supporting local? The UP Cebu grounds in Lahug, Cebu City will be the venue of this history-in-the-making.

9. There are surprise guests and a lot of fun for everyone!

Aside from the artists mentioned above, there are more to discover in Vispop Music Festival. There are surprise guests and acts that are officially unveiled in the coming days via Vispop’s official Facebook page.

#UPCebuAfterSunset compiles ghost stories from UP Cebu

Ghost hunting, horror stories, paranormal activities… you can visit UP Cebu to experience these out-of-this-world events. Yes, University of the Philippines Cebu is one of the spooky places in Cebu where there are spiritual sightings. I have compiled several ghost sightings in the campus as determined by some of the students I’ve talked to and conversations heard and read here and there, some of which are edited version of confessions from “ Speak UP, Iskolar ” published late last year. Believe it or not, according to them, these stories are true and they can attest to the veracity of these experiences. I have categorized these stories according to the places these ghost stories happened. If you have additional stories you experienced, feel free to share those to us by sending it here . ADMIN CR (1) “Kuyog ko sa akong friend adto then nisulod siya sa Admin CR.  Manudlay usa daw siya before mi manulod sa among klase. Nahibu’ng ko kay nikalit na siyag siyagit.

The Curious Case of Sirao Flower Farm in Cebu

I first heard of Sirao Flower Farm in Sirao Peak, Cebu City when I was riding a taxi. Little did I know that Sirao Flower Farm (aka Mini Amsterdam in Cebu) is a trending topic in social media.  For sure, everyone who have heard about the beautiful celosia flowers in Sirao Peak will surely search on how to go there and take a selfie. For only P20.00, you will be able to take a picture that you can post in your Instagram and share it on Facebook. For P100.00, you can take a video and upload it online. Add popular hashtag like #SiraoFlowerFarm, #SiraoPeak, #MiniAmsterdam, and #MiniAmsterdaminCebu to increase visibility and engagement. NOT JUST SELFIES On the other hand, here’s the sad reality: the celosias aren’t treated properly. People are not just simply taking pictures but ruining the beautiful celosias in Sirao Flower Farm. With hundreds of Cebuanos flocking to Sirao every day, I cannot help but feel sad about the status of the celosias and how they are treated by
