Traveling requires more than going out and spending your time in a different environment. It requires planning, patience and a good state of mind. It is a great opportunity to explore new places, meet new friends, learn new things and rediscover yourself.
For me, a fulfilling trip is one that is spent with positive attitude and good vibes. You should know by now a few tips on traveling like planning ahead your itinerary, going beyond your comfort zones and appreciating the little things. Here let me share 5 tips on how to keep your good vibes while traveling:
1. Don't forget your earplugs.
This , my friend, is a traveler's best friend. At some point on your trip, you'll need to muffle the sounds of annoying passengers, noisy engines, crying babies, barking dogs and more. Make sure to keep your cool and turn that good music on. But be sensitive when to use it especially when traveling with someone or with your friends.
2. Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself.
Traveling should be fun and exciting so don't take life so seriously. When trying out new things, sometimes you'll screw up and find yourself in embarrassing situations. Go ahead, take a good laugh, smile and you'll be surprised to even find new friends from fellow travelers or random strangers. Bloopers and funny moments often highlights a trip.
3. Don't be shy.
One awesome thing you can do while traveling is to be who you want to be. No one knows about you and your background so give your best impression to a fellow traveler or local you meet. Don’t be shy to interact with tourists both local and foreign. Break out of your shell, dance with the crowd and go crazy with your friends.
4. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Experience matters more than material things. Don't stress yourself when you missed to buy a souvenir, forgot/lost your gadgets or simply unable to find an internet connection. Don't focus on the things that you can buy rather savor the moments that money can't.
5. Don't oversleep.
Waking up early makes you more productive. They say "morning people" are more likely to anticipate problems, minimize them and plan the day effectively. Leaving earlier than the crowd also makes commuting hassle-free. Besides, adventure is outside the doorstep that is why most travelers don't spend too much on accommodation.
6. Don't take limited photos.
If possible, take lots of photos and don't worry about looking like a "tourist". It's your best souvenir which costs you nothing. This may be your only chance to visit a place so preserve your best memories. There was a time when I lost my phone inside a pouch on an island. I can't remember where it is until I saw it while browsing my camera. Eventually, we were able to track and retrieve my phone. Thank goodness!
7. Don't forget to backup.
Again, expect the unexpected. This can be optional but will definitely save you from bad vibes later. When going on a long trip, make it a habit to keep a copy of your important documents both physical and digital. After a day, backup your photos and files in an external drive and even online. What's worse than coming home from a trip and finding out your memory card is corrupted?
These are just few of the many things you can do to fill your trip with good vibes. However, it's still up to you how you make it more fun or a stressful one. Either way, I'm sure it will be memorable. What's important is to learn from your mistakes and to keep on traveling.
