From Cebu to Siquijor, With Love

We just arrived in Larena, Siquijor after our exciting boat ride from the Queen City of the South, Cebu. For the past 12 hours, we have been traversing the waters of Cebu and Dumaguete to reach this part of Central Visayas.

The mystery of Mystical Island of Siquijor is slowly unfolding. On the next two days, we will be on an adventure to teach the basics of blogging to the local government and tourism officials for this #SensationalSiquijor adventure trip tapping bloggers from Cebu Blogging Community to facilitate the activities.

With the theme “Bridging Information and Tourism through Social Media”, #SensationalSiquijor is expected to teach LGU officers and national government agencies from Cebu, Siquijor, Bohol, and Negros how to maximize the potential of blogging and social media in promoting their respective agencies.

On our boat ride to Siquijor that started in Cebu Pier 1, we were guided by the Public Information Agency (PIA) Cebu. We met with them at around 7PM together with my fellow bloggers from Cebu Blogging Community. They were very accommodating to us, especially to me who will be visiting Siquijor for the first time. In addition to the challenges we will be undergoing on this #SensationalSiquijor, I will still find time to finish the 30 Day Blogging Challenge. Interestingly, we are now on our 28th day of the challenge—two more days to go and we will finally get that most coveted Golden Badge.

It wouldn’t be an easy journey ahead of us. We were already warned that in Siquijor, there will be very intermittent internet connection. Will we be able to make it? That is the question. All these thoughts are bothering the participants of the 30 Day Blogging Challenge while on our way to this exciting journey!

HOW TO GO TO SIQUIJOR

From Cebu, there are 3 ways for you to go to Siquijor. The first one is through the fast craft, the second will be through land trip, while the third one is through boat ride.

1. FAST CRAFT.

This is the quickest and most expensive way to get to Siquijor. You will just get an Ocean Jet ticket that costs around P1,400.00. This will just be a one-ride, five-and-a-half hour ride to the Mystical Island. The scheduled trip is 7:30AM and it will arrive in Siquijor at 1PM daily. (Please double check the schedule since this might change without prior notice.)

2. LAND TRIP.

Going to Siquijor can be done through land trip. You will have to go to Cebu South Bus Terminal and ride a Ceres Bus going to Dumaguete. This will cost you about P165.00 and the boat going to Sibulan costs P45. The boat going to Larena, Siquijor costs P130.00. This is the cheapest way, it will cost you only P340.00. (Please double check the schedule of the bus and the boats since I don’t have this details as of yet).

3. BOAT.

From Cebu Pier 1, you can take a boat to Dumaguete at 7PM daily. It will cost you P320.00 and a P25.00 terminal fee. It usually takes 6 hours so you will arrive at around 1AM in Dumaguete. To make it to Larena, Siquijor, you have to ride another boat and it will cost you about P130.00. The daily schedule is at 5:30AM and you will arrive in Lorena, Siquijor at 7:30AM. You will be spending about P475.00. (Well, we used this method in getting to the Mystical Island).

That’s how we traversed Cebu to Siquijor, with love. I am open to new challenges as continue to struggle to connect to the online world. Again, will we be able to make it on time?

#UPCebuAfterSunset compiles ghost stories from UP Cebu

Ghost hunting, horror stories, paranormal activities… you can visit UP Cebu to experience these out-of-this-world events. Yes, University of the Philippines Cebu is one of the spooky places in Cebu where there are spiritual sightings. I have compiled several ghost sightings in the campus as determined by some of the students I’ve talked to and conversations heard and read here and there, some of which are edited version of confessions from “ Speak UP, Iskolar ” published late last year. Believe it or not, according to them, these stories are true and they can attest to the veracity of these experiences. I have categorized these stories according to the places these ghost stories happened. If you have additional stories you experienced, feel free to share those to us by sending it here . The Curious Case of Sirao Flower Farm in Cebu

I first heard of Sirao Flower Farm in Sirao Peak, Cebu City when I was riding a taxi. Little did I know that Sirao Flower Farm (aka Mini Amsterdam in Cebu) is a trending topic in social media.  For sure, everyone who have heard about the beautiful celosia flowers in Sirao Peak will surely search on how to go there and take a selfie. For only P20.00, you will be able to take a picture that you can post in your Instagram and share it on Facebook. For P100.00, you can take a video and upload it online. Add popular hashtag like #SiraoFlowerFarm, #SiraoPeak, #MiniAmsterdam, and #MiniAmsterdaminCebu to increase visibility and engagement. NOT JUST SELFIES On the other hand, here’s the sad reality: the celosias aren’t treated properly. People are not just simply taking pictures but ruining the beautiful celosias in Sirao Flower Farm. With hundreds of Cebuanos flocking to Sirao every day, I cannot help but feel sad about the status of the celosias and how they are treated by
