Lessons Learned (and Blessings) from 30 Day Blogging Challenge

The 30 Day Blogging Challenge ended yesterday. For the entire month of October, I was able to do daily blogging. It feels great that I was able to accomplish such task! It’s no easy feat considering there were some challenges along the way, and I fulfilled them all!

I’m a bit exhausted from my Siquijor trip with the Cebu bloggers (I’ll blog about it in the coming days) but I don’t want to break the streak, so here I am trying to make another blog post.

LESSON LEARNED

Here are the lessons I learned from this blogging exercise:

1. Blogging becomes a habit if you do it for 30 consecutive days.

It feels off that I won’t be able to blog in a day. If not every day, probably I wish to blog at least twice a week. Blogging has not become a part of my daily life.

2. Write for your readers, not just for yourself.

When writing for my blog, I realized not I should write something that will give value to my readers. I’m not just writing a diary but a blog that aims to inspire others in various ways possible.

3. Review your blog posts from time to time.

To become blogger shouldn’t be write-and-publish but reviewing the final output and checking the previous blog posts from time to time. Typographical errors exist, especially if we don’t have that much tool to help us fix some of these grammatical issues.

4. While content is king, engagement is queen.

Social media should work side by side with a blog. There should be a community to help promote the blog. Joining syndications can work and writing shareable posts should be the aim in blogging.

5. Know your priorities and make sure to stick to the schedule.

As a student or a professional, we have a life. Blogging is just one of our priorities so make sure to balance your daily tasks, and you may include blogging.

BLESSINGS

When I decided to join the 30 Day Blogging Challenge, I had nothing in mind but to finish the challenge. I didn’t expect that blessings come with taking the challenge. Here are some great things that happened when I participated the challenge:

1. I was nominated to become the Lifestyle Lead of Cebu Blogging Community.

During the middle of the 30 Day Blogging Challenge, Cebu Blogging Community had a nomination to assign Leads in various niches in the community. I was at first hesitant to accept the position but decided to because it’s my way of helping the community who convinced me to become a better blogger.

2. I was invited to be one of the blogger mentors in #SensationalSiquijor.

When I was invited to become a mentor in #SensationalSiquijor from October 28-30, 2015 I immediately filed a leave. It’s a free travel to Siquijor; who wouldn’t want to be part of it? The challenge: very intermittent internet connection in Coco Grove Beach Resort, San Juan, Siquijor. Solution: decided to write the last 3 posts while on our way to Siquijor.

3. My blog became a finalist in the Cebu Best Blog Awards Events/Entertainment category.

I didn’t expect to get this news while attending #SensationalSiquijor. Hello to more surprises, dear Zuprome.

4. My blog’s traffic and Alexa soared beyond expectations.

I didn’t expect to get 348 Traffic Rank in PH and 153,770 Alexa Traffic Rank after the 30 Day Blogging Challenge. More than Alexa, I got unrealistically good traffic compared to the previous months. I had 300% in traffic compared to the previous month and it’s actually equivalent to my traffic for from May to September 2015 (five months)!

I am more than convinced that this blogging challenge will make you a better blogger. Are you still doubting whether 30 Day Blogging Challenge is a good thing? Let me know in the comment section below.

#UPCebuAfterSunset compiles ghost stories from UP Cebu

Ghost hunting, horror stories, paranormal activities… you can visit UP Cebu to experience these out-of-this-world events. Yes, University of the Philippines Cebu is one of the spooky places in Cebu where there are spiritual sightings. I have compiled several ghost sightings in the campus as determined by some of the students I’ve talked to and conversations heard and read here and there, some of which are edited version of confessions from “ Speak UP, Iskolar ” published late last year. Believe it or not, according to them, these stories are true and they can attest to the veracity of these experiences. I have categorized these stories according to the places these ghost stories happened. If you have additional stories you experienced, feel free to share those to us by sending it here . The Curious Case of Sirao Flower Farm in Cebu

I first heard of Sirao Flower Farm in Sirao Peak, Cebu City when I was riding a taxi. Little did I know that Sirao Flower Farm (aka Mini Amsterdam in Cebu) is a trending topic in social media.  For sure, everyone who have heard about the beautiful celosia flowers in Sirao Peak will surely search on how to go there and take a selfie. For only P20.00, you will be able to take a picture that you can post in your Instagram and share it on Facebook. For P100.00, you can take a video and upload it online. Add popular hashtag like #SiraoFlowerFarm, #SiraoPeak, #MiniAmsterdam, and #MiniAmsterdaminCebu to increase visibility and engagement. NOT JUST SELFIES On the other hand, here’s the sad reality: the celosias aren’t treated properly. People are not just simply taking pictures but ruining the beautiful celosias in Sirao Flower Farm. With hundreds of Cebuanos flocking to Sirao every day, I cannot help but feel sad about the status of the celosias and how they are treated by
